NEPALGUNJ, Aug 11: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Tuesday stressed on the need for the formation of a new national government so as to be able to draft the new constitution on schedule.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari, Birgunj, Khanal said that a new national government with the participation of the three major parties -- the Nepali Congress, the Unified CPN (Maoists) and the CPN-UML --was imperative for the timely drafting of the new constitution. He also urged the Maoists to withdraw their protest programs and forge an understanding with the government.

“No single party commands the strength to move alone,” Khanal said, adding, that the peace process could not be brought to a logical end without the participation of the Maoists in the government.

“The three major parties should come together to form a national government,” Khanal said. Pointing at a few CPN-UML leaders, Khanal also suggested that anti-Maoist groupism would prove unfortunate for the country.
