Kavre bag football title<br/>Heera, Suresh into squash final

KATHMANDU, July 17: Kavre district bagged the title of school football in the School Level National Sports on Friday. Kavre defeated Syangja 3-1 in the final match held at the Dasharath Stadium. [break]

Bhimsen Tamang gave an early lead to Kavre in the 10th minute and Sagar Gurung netted another goal in the 39th minute. Likewise, Upendra Bohara scored the last goal for Kavre in the 48th minute. Subash Gurung scored the consolation for Kavre in the 52nd minute.

On Thursday, Dhankuta bagged women´s football title defeating Darchula 1-0 in the final.

The winners and the runners up were awarded with the trophy, medals and certificates by the member secretary of the National Sports Council, Jeevan Ram Shrestha.

Heera, Suresh into final

KATHMANDU, July 17: Heera Bahadur Thapa and Suresh Gurung entered into the men´s singles final of the ongoing Second CG Squash Championship on Friday.

Hira defeated Prajwal Pradhan 11-7, 13-11 and 11-5 in the semifinal played at Squash Complex, Satdobato. In the second semifinal, Suresh beat Sudip Bahadur Singh 11-6, 11-6 and 14-12 to go into final.

Lal Bahadur Gurung defeated Kamal Thapa 3-2 to book place in the final of the men´s 45-plus veterans´ singles. Lal Bahadur will meet Suresh in the final on Saturday.

Kshitiz Gurung also advanced to the women´s singles final after beating Sera Tamang in the straight sets 3-0.

Sangita, Sofiya into semis

KATHMANDU, July 17: Sangita Pulami and Sofiya Thapa advanced into the semifinals under-42 kg category of the 4th Korean Ambassador Cup National Taekwondo Championship being held at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Friday.

Sangita beat Sommaya Tamang of Sallaghari and Sofiya defeated Sapa Lama. In the same category, Lakpa Kanchi, Parvati Gurung and Kabita Thapa booked places in the last 16.

In junior men´s 45 kg category, Mekabahadur Lama ousted Dinesh Lama and Mahesh Karki outplayed Rajesh Magar to secure berth in the pre-quarterfinal round. Likewise, Sonam Ghising, Krishna Shrestha, Sare Magar and Mingma Tamang also entered the quarterfinals.

In senior men´s under-58 kg, Yambahadur Pun of Nepal Police defeated Shankhar Tamang of PLA and Purusottam Manandhar of APF to secure place in the pre-quarterfinal round. In other matches of the same category, Kumar Pun, Surendra Chaudhary, Sujan Joshi, Ashis Maharjan, Ballu Siwakoti, Krishna Lama and Sujan Pujari also made it to the pre-quarterfinal round.
