Gurung alleged the association´s president and federation´s general secretary Kedar Babu Siwakoti of misleading and bungling in the process of getting visa.[break]
“He informed me that I was selected for the seminar under women´s quota and asked me to prepare for the tour. Since those participating in the seminar had to bear all expenses, I sought financial support from local organizations in Morang,” said Gurung. “I arrived in Kathmandu last week and handed my passport and Rs 5000 to proceed with the visa process. Siwakoti then asked me to book ticket.”
Though she was supposed to fly for Guangzhou on Friday night, Gurung alleges that Siwakoti deliberately kept her in the dark about the visa process. “He was not available even on the phone. I rang his cell numbers several times, sent text messages but he didn´t respond. While 13 other people flew to China, I was left out,” said Gurung.
“After the departure of the rest, Siwakoti called me the next day and said he waited for me at the Chinese Embassy till late evening on Friday and that the embassy denied me the visa suspecting that I was of Tibetan origin,” added Gurung. “If that was the case, why didn´t he call me on Friday and asked me to bring more documents to the embassy?” asked Gurung.
Gurung smells rat behind these entire episode. “At this point, I think they didn´t forward my passport for visa procedure to begin with,” said Gurung.
“I spent Rs 10,000 for ticket, Rs 5000 for visa procedure and some more money during the course of my stay in Kathmandu. The money was provided to me by people of my village. How will I face all those who supported me after I go back home,” questioned Gurung.
Gurung, from Belbari VDC of Morang, has registered complaints at the National Sports Council and the federation on Sunday seeking financial compensation and demanding action against cheating.
However, federation president Purendra Bikram Lakhe denied Gurung´s claim of cheating. “Even after we furnished Gurung´s accreditations, embassy denied visa. We didn´t cheat her,” said Lakhe.
