According to Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), the IOC has announced cash assistance of $ 450,000 in response to requests to support Nepal post-quake. "IOC has provided us with $ 450,000 on behalf of IOC, Association of International Olympic Committee (ANOC) and Olympic Solidarity (OS). The amount will be released soon," NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said.According to Pradhan, the amount will be spent on the renovation of infrastructures damaged by the earthquake as well as construction of new sports infrastructures. He also added that IOC bodies were also likely to release additional amount.
"We have proposed constructing sports infrastructure jointly with the government. I have already discussed with Minister of Youth and Sports Purusottam Paudel regarding this and he has responded positively. However, the final decision is yet to be made. If our proposal is accepted an international standard covered hall is likely to be constructed in the capital city.
"If the government rejects our proposal, we are planning to partner with Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the construction work. However, the details have not been finalized," said Pradhan. He said preparations of various games were halted due to earthquake.
The National Sports Council (NSC) office and the covered hall of NSC, swimming pool of the Dasharath Stadium premises, among other infrastructures, have been badly damaged in the earthquake. Similarly, nearly a dozen sportsperson have lost their lives including chief coach of volleyball Keshav Lal Shrestha and sports journalist Suman Bhomjan.
NOC had earlier distributed immediate cash relief of Rs 25,000 to the families of sportsperson who lost their life in the earthquake. It had also distributed relief goods to quake affected sportspersons.
