The 2015 Oscars were rightly criticized far and wide for gender inequality. Out of 127 nominees back in February, 102 were men and just 25 were women. More recently, summer blockbuster Jurassic World was accused of being sexist primarily due to an icy corporate female protagonist who is obsessed with her job, before finally embracing her maternal instincts in the interests of survival.
However, 65 percent of Americans said that Jurassic World was not sexist while only 14 percent agreed that it was, according to a new YouGov poll. Even though Jurassic World largely gets off the hook, the same cannot be said about Hollywood in general. When asked if they believed the American movie industry is sexist, 50 percent of respondents answered yes. 23 percent disagreed, saying Hollywood was not sexist while 23 percent were unsure.
