During the meeting with visiting Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Bimalendra Nidhi, at her official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Swaraj drew the attention of Government of Nepal through Minister Nidhi to prepare detailed project proposal for the second phase of the postal road construction.According to a statement sent by Minister Nidhi's Secretariat, Minister Swaraj asked Nepal government to expedite tender process for the second phase construction of postal highway and that India would provide all the necessary funds to carry out the construction work.
Minister Swaraj said that India is positive towards helping to build Bhittamod-Janakpur four-lane highway and other two-lane roads. Nidhi reached New Delhi, India from Thimpu, Bhutan, where four South Asian countries--Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan--reached an agreement to facilitate the movement of vehicles to and from these countries.
Minister Nidhi, who led the Nepali delegation in the meeting of transport ministers from these four countries, had also paid courtesy call on Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. King Wangchuk had expressed his desire to visit Nepal next year while expressing concern about loss of lives and properties caused by the recent earthquake.
During the meeting, Minister Swaraj congratulated Nidhi for the agreement reached in Thimpu, Bhutan. She also expressed hope that the MVA between Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan will further tourism promotion and overall development in the region.
According to the statement, Minister Swaraj also pointed out the need to honestly implement the agreement by all the countries. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently undergoing treatment in London, had congratulated transport ministers from all the countries over telephone for reaching this historical agreement.
