Inaugural franchise Nepal Kabbadi League kicks off

KATHMANDU Jan 17: Kathmandu Mavericks defeated Pokhara Lakers in a nail-biting battle of the opening match of the KB Sam Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL). Kathmandu edged past Pokhara 42-41 in the match held at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwor on Friday.


With the win, Kathmandu secured five clear points. Despite the defeat, Pokhara got one point after losing its match by less than seven points.

Pokhara, who were 12 points behind at one time, bounced back with three minutes to spare to take a three-point lead. However, Kathmandu’s captain Ghanshyam Roka Magar scored in a super raid with two and a half minutes left for the match to end.


Meanwhile, the first franchise Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL) kicked off today.  Organized by Astronics Management, six franchises from six cities will compete in the round-robin and knockout stages till January 31.


 The theme of the tournament is the 'From Soil to the Field and six teams- Biratnagar Bandits, Janakpur Knights, Kathmandu Mavericks, Pokhara Lakers, Himalayan Raiders (Butwal), and Dhangadhi Wildcats, are taking part in the tournament.
