HoR to discuss budgets of 10 ministries today

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the meeting scheduled for 11 AM will cover the annual budget allocations for the ministries of Federal Affairs and General Administration; Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Defence; Water Supply; Health and Population; Education, Science and Technology; Foreign Affairs; Labour, Employment and Social Security; Home Affairs; and Communication and Information Technology.

KATHMANDU, JUNE 21: The House of Representatives (HoR) is set to discuss the budgets of 10 ministries today as part of the ongoing deliberation on the Appropriation Bill for fiscal year 2025/2026, which the government presented on May 28. 


According to the Parliament Secretariat, the meeting scheduled for 11 AM will cover the annual budget allocations for the ministries of Federal Affairs and General Administration; Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Defence; Water Supply; Health and Population; Education, Science and Technology; Foreign Affairs; Labour, Employment and Social Security; Home Affairs; and Communication and Information Technology.


Alongside the budget discussions, several Members of Parliament (MPs) will present proposals to reduce the expenditure of various ministries as a symbolic gesture of objection or demand for revision. MP Dr. Amresh Kumar Singh and Prem Suwal are set to propose that the budgets for nine ministries—including Defence, Energy, Health, Education, and Foreign Affairs—be reduced to just one rupee.

MP Amanlal Modi will make a similar proposal for the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration. MP Prabhu Sah will propose symbolic cuts to the budgets of the Energy, Health, and Water Supply ministries. Additionally, MPs Madhav Sapkota and Ranendra Barali will propose a reduction of 100 rupees from the budgets of the Energy and Defence ministries, respectively.


Further proposals include a 100-rupee cut from the Health Ministry’s budget by lawmakers Gyanu Basnet Subedi and a one-rupee allocation for the Water Supply Ministry by MP Urmila Majhi.


MP Hit Bahadur Tamang will call for a symbolic reduction in the Education Ministry’s budget, while MP Ammar Bahadur Thapa will suggest a 100-rupee cut in the same ministry. MPs Chhiring Lhamulama Tamang and Narayani Sharma will propose reducing the budgets of the Foreign Ministry and Labour Ministry to one rupee, respectively.


MP Chitra Bahadur KC will also propose a general cut to the Home Ministry’s budget, while another MP, Durga Rai, will seek to reduce the same by 100 rupees. These proposals are part of today's scheduled parliamentary proceedings.
