According to traders, home appliances sales in this festive season is even lower than that of last season.[break]
“This is supposed to be the peak season for sales, but this year it is pretty low,” said Ashwini Todi, director of Orbit International -- the authorized distributor of Beko products for Nepal. He also mentioned that no particular product is selling exceptionally well as it used to in the past years.
Dealers say market of home appliances, electronics and automobiles started slowing from November last year. They say increasing power cuts and decreasing purchasing capacity of people are the major reasons behind slow sales.
CG Electronics -- the authorized distributor of LG, Onida, Kelvinator and manufacturer of CG appliances - is also facing tough times selling home appliances. “We are getting response, but it´s not that encouraging. Offers are not making much difference to sales,” said Ramesh Shrestha, general manager of CG Electronics.
Dealers were expecting the sales to increase due to the festive offers that they have announced. But to their disappointment, the sale has not grown up to their expectations. The sales slump is also due to unstable political situation in the country. Also, people are hesitant to spend on these products because of growing insecurity in the country.
However, Him Electronics -- the authorized distributor of Samsung products for Nepal -- is positive about the sales. “It´s too early to decide because people are yet to receive their bonuses and get holidays to spend it. After a few days, we´ll be in a position to comment about it,” said Amitesh Roy, marketing and communication manager of Him Electronics.
