Internationally acclaimed actress Sarandon, who will be in the country for three days more, has joined efforts with Live to Love International--a non-profit organization specializing in Himalayan humanitarian aid. It will continue off-road missions to deliver food and supplies to isolated and undeserved regions affected by the catastrophic 7.9 magnitude earthquake last month. After observing different areas destructed by the earthquake, including Patan Durbar Square, Sarandon remarked, "It is tragic to see the scale of devastation in Nepal. Yet, it is both moving and heartening to see the efforts of Live to Love and their partner groups in helping people under such difficult circumstances."
Collaborating with the organization, Sarandon is also expected to help earthquake victims here in different other means. She will be visiting different other heritage sites before she leaving Nepal.
The non-profit organization is building 'Live to Love' homes to victims expeditiously with on-ground partners like Panchakanya Group and Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO).
According to the officials, the current undertaking will house around 1,000 villagers throughout selected villages in Ramkot within the next two weeks. These houses, according to the officials, are designed by experts in accordance with UN approved guidelines.
Gyalwang Drukpa, founder of Live to Love said that the disaster has been a painful but crucial wake-up call for everyone. "All our efforts must be concentrated at delivering relief in a manner that it not only provides victim immediate relief but also assures of a sustainable rehabilitation," he said.
The organization has also been distributing relief items like rice, milk powder, cooking oil, flour, tarpaulin, shoes and blankets to people in the most affected areas.
"Once I go back to the US, I'll start fundraising for this project. I also intend to come back soon to check on the homes," said Sarandon.
