Chairman Tsang made the commitment after receiving a memorandum from the Nepali community on Sunday. He assured that the government would take initiative to provide government building or land for the community center in Hong Kong.[break]
Tsang said that the Nepali community had felt the need for a community center only after Hong Kong was handed over to the People´s Republic of China in 1997. “But this is a very genuine and essential demand. Both Pakistanis and Philippinos have their own clubs. Though Nepalis have a considerably large community here they do not have their own club,” Tsang said.
“The government is ready to provide appropriate land or building if Nepalis are ready to run a community center,” he further said.
The Nepali community is forced to rent clubs owned by Pakistanis or Indians since they do not have their own community center. Many a time they organize their functions in parks.
Tsang also assured that Hong Kong government is ready to address the concerns raised by the Nepali community on visa and education sector. He expressed readiness to hold further discussions on the issues.
