Representatives from the Finance and Local Development ministries and donor agencies are taking part in the meeting.

Inaugurating the meeting, Minister for Health and Population Rajendra Mahato said though health has been guaranteed as the fundamental right in Nepal, people living in the rural parts of the country are still being deprived of basic health facilities.

"Nepal has, however, witnessed some achievements in maternity and infant mortality rate in the past few years", said the Health Minister adding that preparations were underway to prepare and implement a new health policy.

Also speaking on the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Prabin Mishra expressed the hope that the health policy to be formulated in the future would address many problems facing the health sector.

Finance Secretary Krishnahari Baskota said the health sector in Nepal has not seen achievements as per the investment in this sector.

At the meeting, donor agencies are also scheduled to present progress reports on the programmes that they operated with the coordination of the Ministry.
