KATHMANDU, Oct 8: Israeli intelligence units have reportedly obtained a video of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who was taken hostage in Gaza, according to local media. The video is expected to be made public on Wednesday evening.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning by the Hostage Family Forum, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.

In a statement citing Joshi’s family, it was said, “This proof of life from Gaza, which we are sharing with you today, gives us unwavering confidence that he is alive.”

Joshi had arrived in Israel just three weeks before the October 7 massacre to participate in an agricultural education program. He was abducted from Kibbutz Alumim, where other Nepali citizens were also residing.

According to a November 2023 Wall Street Journal report, Joshi saved the lives of everyone hiding in his shelter. Two grenades were thrown into a room without windows where he and others were hiding. Joshi managed to throw one grenade outside, but was unable to dispose of the second in time, and its explosion seriously injured five of his companions.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Hamas had abducted Joshi in Gaza and at one point kept him at Shifa Hospital. Until now, there was no concrete proof of his survival.
