Gyanodaya, Laboratory triumph

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Gyanodaya and Laboratory made a winning start in the Ganesh Man Singh Cup Inter-school Boy's Football Tournament that kicked off on Tuesday at Laboratory School in Kirtipur. Gyanodaya edged past Nexus School 3-2 in tiebreaker following 2-2 draw in the regulation time. Similarly, Laboratory beat GEMS in sudden death following 2-2 tie in the regulation time and shootout as well.

Judokas to compete in World C'ship

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Two Nepali players are set to compete in the World Judo Championship slated to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from August 25 to 29. Rajan Joshi will take part in the men's 100kg and above, while Phupu Lhamu Khatri will compete in the women's 63kg event. They will leave for the championship on August 24. Khadag Bahadur Dahal is the coach and Nepal Judo Association (NJA) Deputy General Secretary Babu Raja Maharjan is the manager of the team. Meanwhile, NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya will also travel to Kazakhstan to take part in the executive committee meeting of Judo Union of Asia (JUA). Bajracharya, coach Dahal and manager Maharjan leave on August 21.


13 pass ANFA refereeing course

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Altogether 13 candidates out of 47 participants passed the refereeing course of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) that concluded on Tuesday at ANFA Complex, Satdobato. ANFA President Ganesh Thapa distributed referee badge to the 13 trainees who passed the course. Biswas Karki, Harish Karki, Kanchan Thapa, Niroj Bhujel, Prabin Gautam, Radhika Shakya, Rajendra Kumar Thakuri, Rajkumar Chaudhary, Roshan Gurung, Sabin Dhakal, Sandev Shrestha, Suman Shrestha, Suraj Ghimire were the trainees to pass the course.

11 players to compete in SA Karate

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Altogether 11 players, including eight male and three female players, are set to take part in the Sixth South Asian Karate Championship slated for August 22-23 in Gujarat, India. Purushottam Pokharel (45-50 kg), Mohan Tamang (55-60 kg), Manoj Rajbanshi (60-65 kg), Niraj Gautam (50-55 kg), Laxman Tamang (65-70 kg), while Sudip Tharu will compete in open category and Manoj Lama will take part in men's individual kata section. Similarly, Royekta Singh (50-55 kg), Anju Magar (45-50 kg) and Yang Dolma Sherpa (40-45 kg) will compete in women's sections. Nepal Karate Federation General Secretary Hari Sharan KC will lead the team which will leave for India on Thursday.
