KATHMANDU, April 22: The National Examination Board (NEB) has postponed the Grade XII examinations until May 4.

The decision was made following a meeting between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NEB officials at Baluwatar on Tuesday.

The new examination schedule will be published on Wednesday.

The exams, initially scheduled to begin on April 24, were deferred after PM Oli instructed the NEB to defer them due to the current challenging situation.

The exams were affected after the teachers' union continued its Kathmandu-centered protest for the past three weeks. Although the NEB had earlier maintained that the exams would be held on schedule, they were eventually postponed at the last moment.

Earlier, after the teachers announced they would not participate in the examinations, the NEB had planned to mobilize civil servants to conduct the exams.

However, after the civil service trade union also opposed the move, demanding that the teachers' demands be fulfilled and that teachers themselves should be involved in the exams, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli directed the NEB to postpone the examinations.
