KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has asserted that the construction of the new Federal Parliament building inside Singha Durbar is being carried out with a clear commitment to avoid past shortcomings. He warned that the government would take strict action against contractors who fail to complete the work on time.
Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of Directive Principles, Policies, and Responsibilities of the State on Friday, Singh addressed concerns regarding the current schedule for the under-construction Parliament building and the ministry’s preparedness to ensure its timely completion.

Singh assured that all stakeholders involved in the project have been repeatedly reminded not to show negligence. He said that a reliable work plan is currently being followed, and the construction progress is being closely monitored by both the ministry and relevant departments.
“We are all aware that the Parliament building construction has not been completed on time. The ministry is taking a firm stance against those who fail to deliver as scheduled. For instance, penalties were imposed in the Kirtipur Cricket Stadium project. The Parliament building project is now being managed based on a strict timetable,” Singh said. He further noted that engineers, the director general and the project chief have already been summoned and instructed to ensure timely completion.
Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development Gopal Sigdel presented the current schedule during the meeting, stating that the contractor is working to complete the project by late December. He expressed confidence that the next parliamentary session would be held in the new building.
Committee members also emphasized the importance of completing the project in time for the upcoming session to be conducted from the new Parliament building.
