KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The government is operating free bus services along the routes that lead to public hospitals in the capital from Thursday. The move is aimed at helping patients and the general public in accessing health facilities the capital as fuel crisis caused by India imposed blockade keeps many passenger vehicles off the road.

Following the order from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Ministry of General Administration (MoGA) decided to operate four buses in the first phase on four routes that pass through major hospitals in the capital.
Rajendra Poudel, spokesperson of MoGA, said that two buses of Ministry of Home Affairs and two buses of MoGA will ply four various routes from 11am to 3pm every day from Thursday onward.According to MoGA, the buses will help passengers to reach Tripureshwor Eye Hospital, Bhakatapur Cancer Hospital, Bir Hospital, TU Teaching Hospital and Gangalal Hospital. The routes on which the buses will operate connect all the major hospitals of the Kathmandu valley.
He said the ministry will operate additional buses soon on routes connecting emergency services.
The ministry decided to operate vehicles after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli directed Minister for General Administration Rekha Sharma also to use buses picking up civil servants to run along routes connecting major hospitals so as to make travelling for patients and other public more convenient.
Earlier, in Tihar and Chhath, the government had operated free bus service for the general public in the capital. According to MoGA, around 30,000 passengers benefited from the serivice.
