Govt issues market monitoring directory

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The government has issued Market Monitoring Directory with a view to protecting the rights of consumers.



The guidelines issued for the first time with a broader horizon of market monitoring has brought all goods and services from salt to gold including air services into the network of monitoring and checking. [break]



Various market issues including the registration of goods or services, supply, price, quality, measurement, advertisement, monitoring of commercial trade activities, black marketing of goods, syndicate system, carteling are covered by the guidelines.



The guidelines is aimed at controlling food adulteration, artificial price rise of goods and illegal trade activities, Secretary at the Commerce and Supplies Ministry Lalmani Joshi told RSS.



As per the guidelines, monitoring of foodstuffs from production room to the market will be conducted.



Besides, the guidelines has a provision of the formation of a Monitoring Coordination Committee under the convenorship of Commerce and Supplies Secretary. The Committee shall include joint-secretaries at the ministries of finance, industry, agriculture, health and population, federal affairs and local development, rural development, cooperatives and poverty alleviation and the National Vigilance Center as the members.



Similarly, Deputy Inspector Generals of the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, representatives from consumers rights related organization, officers of Press Council Nepal shall be on the Committee.



Action will be taken as per the Consumer Interests Protection Act and other laws if monitoring committee members and the service providers do not fulfill their duty and make errors, said Secretary Joshi.
