Govt categorizes disaster-hit local levels in three groups for relief distribution

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: The government has categorized the disaster-hit local levels in three groups for better facilitation in distributing monetary relief. They are categorized as the most affected, affected, and moderately affected local levels.

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: The government has categorized the disaster-hit local levels in three groups for better facilitation in distributing monetary relief. They are categorized as the most affected, affected, and moderately affected local levels.


The nonstop rainfall that occurred on September 27 to September 28 had taken a huge toll on human life, property and physical infrastructures. As many as 14 districts were most affected by disaster incidents induced by the rainfall while a total 71 local levels from 20 districts have now been qualified for monetary relief.


The 71 local levels from 20 districts affected by the landslides and flooding will be provided relief assistance as per the severity of damage.

According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday decided to provide Rs 10 million each to the most affected local levels, Rs 7.5 million to the affected ones and Rs 5 million to the moderately affected ones. 


As per the decision, Roshi, Temal and Bethanchowk rural municipalities as well as Panauti and Namobuddha municipalities of Kavrepalanchowk district, in addition to Mahankal, Konjyosom and Bagmati rural municipalities as well as Godavari municipality of Lalitpur district have been categorized as the most affected local levels. 


Similarly, the decision has categorized Phidim rural municipality of Panchthar district; Dhunibesi municipality of Dhading district; Mandandeupur municipality, and Bhumlu, Chauri Deurali, Khanikhola and Mahabharat rural municipalities of Kavrepalanchowk district; Bhotekoshi rural municipality of Sindhupalchowk district; Golonjar and Sunkoshi rural municipalities of Sindhuli district; Indrasarowar rural municipality of Makawanpur district; and Belaka municipality of Udayapur district as the affected local levels. 


Likewise, the local levels classified as moderately affected are Sandakpur rural municipality of Ilam district; Champadevi, Sunkoshi and Manebhanjyang rural municipalities of Okhaldhunga district; Halesi Tuwachung municipality and Khotehang and Jantedhunga rural municipalities of   Khotang district; Panchkhal municipality of Kavrepalanchowk district; Ichchhakamana rural municipality, Madi municipality and  Bharatpur metropolitan City of Chitwan district; Bigu and Shailung rural municipalities and  Gaurishankar rural municipality of Dolakha district; Benighat Rorang, Betrawati Dobjyang, Gajuri and Khaniyabas rural municipalities of Dhading district; Phalgunanand and Phalelung rural municipalities of Panchthar district; Bhimphedi and Bakaiya rural municipalities of Makawanpur district; Bardibas and Gaushala municipalities of Mahottari district; and Ramechhap and Manthali municipalities, Doramba Shailung, Khandadevi, Gokulganga, Umakunda, Likhu Tamakoshi and Sunapathi rural municipalities   of Ramechhap district.


Similarly, Rajpur, Gadhimai, Parora and Rajdevi municipalities as well as Durgabhagawati rural municipality of Rautahat district; Belan Kebul rural municipality and Balara municipality of Saptari district; Bagmati municipality of Sarlahi district; Jugal, Balephi  and Panchpokhari Thangpal rural municipalities, and Barhabise municipality of Sindhupalchowk district;   Phikkal and Hariharpur Gadhi rural municipalities of Sindhuli district; Lahan municipality of Siraha district; Khumbu Pasanglhamu and Mapya Dudhkoshi rural municipalities and Solu Dudhkunda municipality of Solukhumbu district are also in the list of moderately affected local levels. Each of these local levels will receive Rs 5 million as monetary relief.
