Govt announces Mountain and Adventure Sports Year

KATHMANDU, July 15: The government has decided to observe upcoming fiscal as Mountain and Adventure Sports Year. An announcement to this effect was made by Finance Minister Barshaman Pun while presenting special budget for the upcoming fiscal on Sunday.



Meanwhile, the budget also envisages construction of stadiums and multi-purpose covered halls of international standard. Likewise, the government also plans to set up sports academies.[break]



The government has also announced prizes and awards for athletes bringing home medals from the London Olympics.



"The government has endorsed our proposal," said Yubaraj Lama, member secretary of the National Sports Council. "Though the government announced plans to award Olympic medalists, players bringing home medals from other international and mega sporting events would also be awarded."



The government has allocated Rs 214 million for the sports ministry.
