Gold dealers hit street over Kapan killing

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Gold entrepreneurs and locals have staged demonstrations in Kapan, Kathmandu since Saturday morning, protesting the killing of a local jewel shop owner, who was shot dead by a group of armed looters a day earlier.



The irate demonstrators have blocked the road and obstructed vehicular movement in the area, condemning frequent attacks on jewelers in the capital in the recent past. [break]



Harka Bahadur Diyale, owner of the local Mata Manakamana Sun Chandi Pasal, was shot by the looters at his shop on Friday while he was about to close the day´s business.



He succumbed to his injuries during the course of his treatment at Om Hospital, Chabahil, later in the evening.



His aide Roshan BK was also critically injured in the incident. He has been undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.



The protesters have demanded stern action against the culprits, due compensation to the bereaved family and proper security arrangement for gold entrepreneurs in the city.



Just some time ago, an armed gang had killed a worker of the Guna Jyasa Gold Shop in Pulchowk.
