Airline operators flexible on use of face shields by passengers
KATHMANDU, August 31: The operators of airlines in the country have agreed to scrap the mandatory use of face shields by air passengers effective from Wednesday.

According to the Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), its meeting held on Tuesday has decided to remove the compulsion to use a face shield for an airline passenger, in line with the international airline companies many of which have already removed the provision. Anoj Rimal, the first vice- president of the AOAN, said they have taken the decision as properly-worn masks also reduce the risk of covid-19 transmission significantly, like the face shields.
Since June 2020, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has made it mandatory to wear either surgical or N-95 masks during air travel. After the Department of Transport Management in mid-October last year made it mandatory for passengers to wear face shields during long trips, AOAN also implemented the provision for air passengers.
