ILAM, March 2: Matrika Yadav-led Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) is preparing for forging working alliance with four armed groups in the eastern region.

The four groups are Rishi Kattel-led CPN (Unity Center Masal), Angami-led Kirant Workers, Mani Thapa-led Revolutionary Communist Party, and Revolutionary Left Wing led by Krishna KC. [break]

The five parties decided this at a meeting held in Biratnagar a week ago. “The unity among the five will be announced soon,” a source told myrepublica.com.

The source also said that the leaders agreed to form a semi-military structure in all districts for "people´s security" and the structure will include disqualified Maoist combatants and dissidents from the UCPN (Maoist).

The four leaders except for Angami´s head splinter factions of the UCPN (Maoist) while all five are in the list of armed outfits.

While Rishi Kattel refused to join the UCPN (Maoist) when the then CPN (Unity Center Masal) leaders including Narayan Kaji Shrestha joined the then CPN (Maoist) [present day UCPN (Maoist)], Mani Thapa was Maoist politburo member during the people´s war.

Similarly, KC formed the Revolutionary Left Wing after quitting the Maoist party and Angami split from Kirant Janawadi Workers Party.

The security agencies have expressed serious concern over the unification of the armed groups that have been engaged in lootings, murders, violence and extortions.

Camps for disqualified in Ilam

Meanwhile, the UCPN (Maoist) has decided to mobilize the UNMIN-disqualified combatants into a paramilitary outfit.

It has directed them to set up camps in all three constituencies in Ilam -- Ilam district headquarters, around Phikkal and Mangalbare -- with 40 combatants each. They will be put in the camps after receiving training from Maoist leaders.

“The new outfit will be of a higher order than the YCL,” a Maoist source said.
