Five AIGs and three DIGs to retire alongside IGP Kunwar

Similarly, DIGs Ganesh Chand, Bhola Bahadur Rawal and Dhruba Bahadur Raut, the chief of the Sudurpaschim Province Police, are also retiring on the same date.

KATHMANDU, March 10:  Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, along with five Additional Inspectors General (AIGs) and three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), will retire on April 2, 2025, marking the end of their 30-year careers in the police force.


Along with IGP Kunwar, other high-ranking officers of the organization who were recruited as police inspectors 30 years ago are also going on mandatory retirement due to the legal provision introduced in 2008. The officers who are due to retire include AIGs Tek Prasad Rai, chief of the Administration Department at the Police Headquarters, Durga Singh Chand, chief of the Human Resources Department, Kuber Kadayat, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department, Buddhiraj Gurung and Janakraj Bhattarai.

Similarly, DIGs Ganesh Chand, Bhola Bahadur Rawal and Dhruba Bahadur Raut, the chief of the Sudurpaschim Province Police, are also retiring on the same date.


They all joined the organization as police inspectors on March 19, 1995 along with IGP Kunwar. According to the police regulations, they are retiring together after completing 30 years of service.


Following IGP Kunwar's retirement, one among three AIGs – Deepak Thapa, Sudip Giri and Tek Bahadur Tamang, who joined the police service in 1996, will become the next police chief.


Thapa is the head of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Giri is the Executive Director of the National Police Academy and Tamang heads the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.
