Fast track customs clearance of relief goods

KATHMANDU, May 5: Department of Customs (DoC) has introduced a new system for speedy clearance of relief material for earthquake victim from customs offices.



Under the new system, the recipients of relief material will have to fill up declaration form online by visiting DoC's website (www.customs.gov.np). Sishir Dhungana, director general of DoC, said the recipients can fill up customs declaration forms online in advance.

"Customs officials can then verify relief material based on the forms filled up by the recipients and clear them immediately," he said. The new facility was put in place after DoC was criticized from all quarters for excessive red tape in customs offices.


The government has announced customs duty waiver on relief materials including tarpaulin meant for the earthquake victims.
