What would your reaction be? It’s always a bit strange to see shoplifters and pick-pocketers going about their business right in front of us. No doubt, we will be taken aback, but what are we going to do about it? [break]
Nirajan Shrestha, 23, a recent graduate of Medical Bio Chemistry from Nobel College, says, “Once on my way home from college in Chabahil when I saw a woman getting out of the micro with someone else’s mobile phone in her hand.
Some boys hit her but she managed to get away. I think shoplifters and pick-pocketers have to be taught a lesson. If there are no policemen nearby, I’d teach the person a lesson along with my friends. And if he looks weaker than me, I’d catch him and slap him.”

Strength does lie in numbers. If we are with friends, we can feel secure enough to confront the person. What drives a person to steal is not always understandable but instead of ignoring the fact that is happening right in front of us, we should do as Bikalpa Kattel suggests.
He states, “I’d start by letting the pick pocketer know that I have seen him and I hope that dissuades him from trying again. But if he doesn’t care and goes ahead with his unfinished business then I’d immediately inform the other people about his actions. That way, he will get the punishment he deserves.”
On our Facebook page, Krity Pant simply says, “I’d kick that person.”
Well, the person would surely receive a shock if she does that. And maybe a lesson, too!
