BIRGUNJ, Jan 26: Goods worth Rs 29.27 billion have been exported to different countries via the Birgunj Customs Office in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
The customs office has stated that exports surged by 100 percent, that is, by Rs 14.71 billion compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the first six months of the last fiscal year, Nepal had exported goods worth Rs 14.56 billion. Exports increased overall due to the rising exports of processed soybean and sunflower oil to neighboring India in the first six months of the current fiscal year, said Information Officer Amit Tiwari of Birgunj Customs Office.
Birgunj Customs collects Rs 236.31 billion as revenue
The office collected Rs 176.60 million in revenue from exports of goods and merchandise in the first six months of the current fiscal year. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, it had collected Rs 103.81 million in revenue from exports.
Meanwhile, goods and merchandise worth Rs 277.15 million were imported through the Birgunj border point in the first six months of the current fiscal year. It was worth Rs 260 million in the first six months of the previous fiscal year.
Imports have also increased by 6.45 percent in the corresponding period of the current fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year.
