KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Entrepreneurs should focus on small-scale investments with high confidence and commitment rather than waiting for large capital, experts suggested during the 37th edition of the MediaTalk series at St. Xavier's College, Maitighar.
According to a press statement issued by St. Xaviers College, speaking at the event, Jagannath Maharjan, Managing Director of Khajurico Nepal, encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to start small and stay persistent. Recalling his own journey, he shared, “I started my business from home with scarce resources. Sales were low, but I didn't give up. Theoretical knowledge is different from real-life experience, and perseverance is key.”
Maharjan also highlighted the lack of startup-friendly policies in Nepal, pointing out that Nepal Rastra Bank does not have clear investment guidelines for startups. "Even with a solid business plan, entrepreneurs are required to provide collateral for loans, which discourages many from starting their ventures," he said. He further emphasized that trust plays a crucial role in business success, both between producers and consumers and within oneself.
'We want to start a movement of social entrepreneurship'

Bindra Kachhapati Pradhan, one of Nepal's pioneering female interior designers, stressed the importance of confidence. "If you lack funds to start your business, work elsewhere to gain experience and save money. Confidence is key, and it must be nurtured alongside financial resources,” she said.
Sandeep Shrestha, Founder of Sustainability Solutions, emphasized that entrepreneurship is not solely about profit but about building a strong brand identity. "If you aim to earn money, opportunities exist worldwide. However, true entrepreneurship is about creating value, exposure, and developing life skills,” he remarked.
Fr Dr Augustine Thomas, S.J., Principal of St. Xavier's College, encouraged students to embrace entrepreneurship as a tool for positive change. "Great entrepreneurs go beyond dreaming. This series aims to inspire young minds to think boldly, act wisely, and turn challenges into opportunities,” he said.
Chun Bahadur Gurung, Faculty Coordinator of the MediaTalk series, highlighted its role in engaging students in meaningful discussions. "Started in 2019, this out-of-classroom pedagogy continues to invite national and international experts. The latest edition focused on fostering job creators rather than job seekers," he stated.
The MediaTalk series continues to serve as a platform for students to explore and engage in diverse academic discussions, inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
