Ex-PM Baburam Bhattarai quits UCPN (Maoist) (with video)

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has quit UCPN (Maoist) on Saturday.

Organizing a press conference at Indreni Food Land in New Baneshwar today, Dr Bhattarai said he has quit both as party member as well as lawmaker.


In the press conference, Bhattarai said he will not return to the UCPN (Maoist). Bhattarai said he has informed Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Speaker Subas Nembang on his decision.



Stating that he had involved actively in politics for 40 years, he expressed his desire to now live an ordinary life.

He also criticized India for its intervention in the internal affairs of Nepal.

Bhattarai had commented that the time was not ripe enough for celebrating the promulgation of the new constitution when the country was gearing up for the historic event on September 20.

Bhattarai had been elected to the 2nd Constituent Assembly from Gorkha-2 held in 2013.


He had served as Chairman of the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA, a key committee in constitution writing.
