Organizing a press meet at the Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, the vice-chairman of the LP Gas Industry Association Nepal, Shiva Prasad Ghimire said, "Since the Nepal Oil Corporation and the government have failed to address our demands within set deadline, we have no other option but to resort to strike." The association has said it would stop the supply of gas cylinders August 15 onwards if the demands are not met.
The entrepreneurs have demanded an increase in commissions for dealers and overhead expenditure and prior permission of the association for opening a new gas industry, among other things. They have also demanded scrapping of the government’s decision to have separate cylinders for household purpose and for industrial use.
According to Kus Prasad Malla, general secretary of the association, introducing two types of cylinders will pose a threat of misuse and will also facilitate the creation of artificial shortage of LP gas in the market.
