KATHMANDU, May 28: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka held a meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson.
During the meeting at the ministry today, discussions were held on energy cooperation between the two countries and various aspects of the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project.

Minister Khadka said that although work on projects under the MCC is ongoing, the temporary hold on the MCC has created some uncertainty. He expressed confidence that the MCC project will continue to progress and that the US will provide further support in the energy sector.
During the meeting, US Ambassador Thompson assured continuous support and assistance from the US in Nepal’s energy sector. He said every possible effort is being made to advance the MCC project. He also requested the Nepalese government to provide necessary support to ensure the ongoing projects under the MCC continue progressing smoothly.
Under the MCC agreement, the United States will invest $500 million, while Nepal will contribute $197 million for the MCC project. The project includes the construction of a 400 kV transmission line and associated substations from Lapsiphedi to Ratmate, Ratmate to Damauli, Damauli to Butwal, and Butwal to the Nepal-India border (Gorakhpur).
The meeting was attended by representatives from the MCC and MCA, as well as senior officials from the ministry.
