Emergency Hour: Lawmakers urge govt to act

KATHMANDU, May 6: The Lower House lawmakers have urged the government to take immediate action to resolve the pressing national and social issues that they raised during an emergency meeting of the House of Representatives.


While lawmaker Ranjita Shrestha called on the government to launch an impartial investigation into the April 30 arrest of Nagarik Unmukti Party leader Resham Chaudhary, Kantika Sejuwal urged the government to rescue Dipraj Bhandari, a resident of Sumli village, Chhayanath Municipality-14, Mugu. The 26-year old remains stranded in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, for the past three months. He is said to have gone to Dubai as migrant labor a year ago.

Lawmaker Thakur Prasad Gaire asked the government to complete the construction of the federal parliament building inside Singha Durbar on time.


Lawmaker Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar pointed out the government's failure to utilize the budget allocated for district headquarters and called for immediate attention.


Similarly, Lawmaker Manish Jha pressed the government to increase women's participation in the Council of Ministers.
