Embassy of B'desh celebrates Martyrs' Day

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The Embassy of People´s Republic of Bangladesh in Kathmandu celebrated Martyrs´ Day and the International Mother Language Day organizing special functions on Monday.



The function, held within the embassy premises, included hoisting of National Flag, discussion on the significance of the day, special prayer session and cultural programs with participation from both Bangladeshi and Nepali artistes. [break]



Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal Neem Chandra Bhowmik read out messages from Bangladeshi President, Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister at the beginning of the discussion program.



A press release issued by Bangladesh embassy in Kathmandu, stated that the special prayer was offered for eternal peace of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives fighting to establish rights to their mother tongue, Bangla, during the language movement of February 21, 1952, and for the peace and prosperity of Bangladesh. One minute silence was observed on the occasion.



Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Foreign Secretary Madan Kumar Bhattarai, secretaries, ambassadors, diplomats, former ambassadors to Bangladesh, senior government officials, artistes, media persons and expatriate Bangladeshis, among others, attended the function.
