KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Surya Nepal Eastern Open, the third event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2015-16, will tee off on Tuesday at the Nirvana Country Club Health & Golf Resort, Dharan.
The three-day event, to be played over 54 holes on stroke play format, is being organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association and sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.
Altogether 27 pros, including four locals, will compete in the event, along with 23 amateurs. Top professionals and amateur golfers of the country have already assembled in Dharan. The Golf course has been tweaked up for the tournament and will test skills of the best if the game in the country.
The event carries a purse of Rs 540,500 and the winner will take home Rs 100,000. The runner up will bag Rs 63,000 and the third place finisher will earn Rs 45,000 with top 21 players receiving their share of cash prizes.
The tournament will conclude with the amateur golfers teaming up with the pros in the Pro-Am event on Saturday.
Top ranked Shiva Ram Shrestha, defending champion and money leader of the current season Sanjay Lama, local favorite Sabin Sapkota, Rabi Khadka, Deepak Thapa Magar and Bhuwan (Umesh Nagarkoti) will be players to watch in the event.
Cut will be applied after 36 holes of play, top 21 professionals and ties, along with amateurs making the cut, will play the final 18 holes.
