Eastern Nepal mourns Thapa's demise

BIRATNAGAR, April 16: The eastern region of the country is mourning the demise of former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa who originally hails from Muga VDC in Dhankuta district in the region.

Thapa breathed his last at around 10:30 pm in Medanta Hospital at Haryana, India while undergoing treatment. He was 88.Thapa, who was elected Prime Minister for five times, was also the eldest member of the second Constituent Assembly.

He is noted for the development of his hometown Dhankuta besides his acumen in polity.

A 'tole' (settlement) where Thapa also has a house in Biratnagar in Morang district is named as 'Thapa Gaun' after his surname.

His demise is taken as an irreparable loss to the nation at the time when the process of constitution drafting is moving ahead in a snail pace. RSS
