While speaking at program organized to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nepal-China diplomatic relationship in the capital, DPM Thapa credited the two late kings as pioneers from Nepal for fostering diplomatic ties with the northern neighbor. Launching a book titled "You and Us: Stories of China and Nepal' published in commemoration of the diamond jubilee of Nepal-China diplomatic relations, DPM Thapa, lauded China for not interfering in Nepal's internal affairs.
While lauding the efforts of Chinese leaders from Mao to incumbent Chinese President Xi Jinping for their contribution in strengthening Nepal-China relationships, he also referred to many Nepali leaders and personalities from the past for fostering ties between both nations.
“I would like to like to credit of many of our nationals who paved way for establishing cordial bilateral relationship between our nations. Of them late King Mahendra and King Birendra come at the fore followed by Tanka Prasad Acharya, Bishweshwor Prasad Koirala and Kirtinidhi Bista. They all contributed in establishing the multi-dimensional relations between the two closest neighbors,” he said.
Thapa, who had recently visited China, said that Nepal and China were going to have trade and transit agreement very soon and informed that the draft of transit agreement between the nations has been prepared by concerned authorities.
“Nepal struggled for its right to transit with India but we never initiated to the process for securing transit route with China,” he adding said, “Now we are working towards this end. We have already forwarded a draft of transit and trade agreement to respective Chinese authorities.”
Stating that Nepal and China have been fully cherishing friendly relations based on mutual trust, he stressed that it was high time for taking the relationship to new heights. Pointing to Nepal's strict allegiance to one-China policy, Thapa said that Nepal should be utilizing China's support and cooperation for its socio-economic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai highlighted the eight point agreement recently signed in Beijing and pitched it as symbol of renewed momentum in the bilateral relationship. He said that the relationship would take greater heights in the days ahead while assuring continued support to Nepal.
