DPM Shrestha highlights achievements of his 100 days

KATHMANDU, Sept 15: Highlighting 17 key decisions and achievements made by the Ministry of Education in 100 days of his tenure, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Gopal Man Shrestha said that he would take necessary action against corruption-accused Dolindra Prasad Sharma, chairperson and general manager of Sajha Prakashan.

“I will take necessary action against Sharma once he furnishes his second clarification sought by the ministry,” said Minister Shrestha. “Sharma's first response was unsatisfactory. So now we have sought clarifications from him asking why not to sack him.”


The 17 achievements, according to the minsiter, include selection of 197 model schools in the country, formation of high-level education commission, drafting of 'save schools policy', an agreement of US$ 60 million with the World Bank for vocational education and training, development of school monitoring tools, assignment of resource persons in local bodies, and publication of details of education budget allocated for local bodies.

 

Similarly, the list also includes development of curriculum for Open University, construction of virtual classroom infrastructure in 100 schools in 11 districts, issuance of quality assurance and accreditation certificate to 17 educational institutions, allocation budget to develop 25 community schools of midwestern and farwestern regions as constituent colleges of regional universities, policy to improve quality of higher education, action against 19 schools running without coordination with the ministry, a panel formed to look into the applications for affiliation of vocational education, and revision of the eighth amendment to the Education Act to address the demands of temporary school teachers.
