KATHMANDU, June 3: The Rights, Democracy and Inclusion Fund (RDIF) with contributions from four donors will spend £5.8 million in its Phase II program launched in January 2009 for strengthening of democracy in the country.

The RDIF II with contribution from the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Swiss Agency for Development and Corporation (SDC), Australian Government´s Agency for International Development (AusAid) and DANIDA´s Human Rights and Good Governance Advisory Unit (HUGOU) will focus on four priority areas that include promoting intra-party democracy and inclusion, awareness and capacity-building among women, youth and other marginalized and excluded groups in the constitution-making process, constructive engagement of civil society for protection of civil, political and cultural rights and increased capacity-building of the partner organizations.

At the launch of the RDIF II on Wednesday in the capital, which was addressed by Speaker Subas Nembang, the donor representatives stressed the relevance of the RDIF in lending continued support to addressing many challenges faced by Nepal´s democracy since 1990. They said the goal of RDIF is to achieve a governance system characterized by democratic norms, respect for human rights and political and social inclusion of all groups.

RDIF I was launched in February 2006 and was completed in December 2008. The second phase will continue until December 2011.
