Speaking at a program organized by ICT Frame Magazine in Kathmandu on Friday, Birendra Mishra, director general of Office of Controller of Certification (OCC), said digital signature is all ready to be implemented.
Even though the government had launched digital signature back in 2012, it has not been implemented yet in the absence of necessary infrastructure. "We have readied all required infrastructures," Mishra said. "We will implement digital signature within six weeks if things go as planned."
Digital signature is a government-certified identification code attached together with a message to authenticate digital documents and emails by the sender to verify that the document is actually generated by the sender or the signatory who send the document to ensure that the document sent is not modified.
OCC, the Root Certifying Authority, is responsible for implementing digital signature in Nepal.
Former Minister for Science, Technology and Environment Kalpana Dhamala, said necessary plans and policies should be formulated for the development of ICT sector.
Similarly, Govinda Giri, founder of Sagoon.com -- a social networking application -- said that Nepal has lots of youths who can sell their skills, knowledge and ideas in international market.
Manohar Bhattarai, vice chairman of the now-dissolved High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) said skilled manpower, quality education and strategic planning is a must in the field of ICT.
Likewise, Chiranjibi Adhikari, director of ICT Frame Magazine, said the private sector, government and all concerned stakeholders should work in tandem for the development of ICT sector.
On the occasion, the magazine honored 11 individuals in recognition of their contribution in the field of ICT.
