KC's appointment as the head coach means departure of coach Jack Stefanowski who left the country a few days after the April 25 earthquake. Stefanowski, the Poland born American national, whose contract expired with ANFA in mid May (last month), was supposed to look after the national team until SAFF Championship due to held in India in December-January. But both Stefanwoski and ANFA did not contact each other after the expiry of his contract.KC, the former coach of the national women team, is also the football chief coach of the National Sports Council, the apex sports body of the country. Nepal's friendly match against India slated for August 31 will be KC's first match in charge after his appointment. The national team training will start from Friday.
ANFA however, could replace KC from head coach if it appoints foreigner coach for the national team. "We are also looking foreigner coach for the national team and he could be removed from coach if we appoint foreign national for the job," ANFA CEO Indraman Tuladhar said. "KC however, will be associated with the national team in such case. We are yet to finalize his salary and other perks."
This is the not the first occasion that KC got appointed as the coach of the national team. He was made national team coach in 1998 and he had guided the team to All India Governor's Gold Cup in Sikkim, India. However, the tournament is not official international tournament.
Talking to Republica after his appointment, KC said that the role in national team was challenging. "It is a challenging job and my focus will be on lifting Nepal in FIFA rankings," KC said.
Regarding the national team, he said, "We do not have a big selection pool and immediate replacement for current national players. Besides, the players have attitude problem. Thus, my primary aim will be to brush up the players's skill and improve the team setting."
KC's latest achievement as a coach was silver medals during the during First Women SAFF Championship and SAG both held in 2010 in Bangladesh. On the both occasions, Nepal had gone down against India in the final.
Besides, he had also guided A division side Three Star Club to league title in 2005 and in the same year Three Star had reached the semifinal of AFC President's Cup.
