However, youths of Dharan have broken this barrier and reached Sindhupalchowk villages to help the quake victims there. A team of youths from Dharan had headed for Sindhupalchowk on May 2 after collecting relief materials. They have been distributing relief to the quake victims.
"We believe we should help each other in difficult times," said Yogen Rai, the team leader. "Various agencies and people provided us relief materials believing we would distribute it at the right place. This is why we have been travelling to the affected areas for relief distribution," he added.According to him, the team distributed relief materials in Kodari, Kalika, Sunkhani, Yamuna Dada, Kadambas, among other villages of the district. A medical team of Nidan Samaj, Kathmandu, had also travelled along with them to provide treatment to those injured in the quake.
Many have criticized the government for ineffective relief distribution. It is being said that the relief provided by the donors have yet to reach the quake victims. But the youths from have has decided to step in help the quake victims themselves. "It took us six days for us to manage six truck-loads of relief materials and distribute it in the targeted areas," said Rai.
Lekhmani Rai, principal of Oshim Boarding School in the district, expressed happiness and satisfaction at the noble initiative of the youths. "I thought the new generation youths are not responsible. But, these youths from Dharan proved me wrong," he said.
