KATHMANDU, March 17: The UK Department for International Development (DfID) on Wednesday announced £5 million (Rs 550 million) aid to Nepal to be spent through the Nepal Peace Trust Fund (NPTF) in support of the peace process.

A press statement issued by the DfID Nepal states that it is looking forward to supporting reintegration into civilian life of Maoist combatants, preparation of elections after the promulgation of new constitution and establishment of the two new transitional justice commissions in Nepal.

Sarah Sanyahumbi, head of DfID Nepal, said she was pleased to announce the aid.

“The NPTF is the key instrument for supporting the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants, as well as providing support to the constitutional mechanisms related to truth and reconciliation, disappearance and elections,” Sanyahumbi further said.
