Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) is a changed man. The super-villain, who once stole the moon, is now trying to fill in his responsibilities as an ideal father and in doing so, has retired from all the wickedness to focus in a more harmless jam and jelly business. Starting on a new life is difficult but Gru is adapting with loads of help from his minion army. The Anti-Villain League, however, wants his expertise in capturing a mysterious criminal, who has stolen a mutating chemical compound (in fact the whole laboratory), and stop a large scale crime. This time around the production design looks expensive and as there is no evolving character arc for Gru in this installment, the plot explores his romantic side by pairing him with the quirky Agent Lucie Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig). Audiences will greatly miss the sarcastic tone of the original film but the slapstick style of humor will largely subsidize its absence. The witty set-pieces involving the stumbling minions are ridiculously funny. The producers use them to the fullest as the minions are going to have a movie of their own next year.If you’ve missed boredom free movies in a long time, try ‘Despicable Me 2’.
