POKHARA, May 27: The work of burying and dredging of the wetland area of Phewa lake located in Pokhara Metropolitan City and Annapurna Rural Municipality will be stopped. A decision to this end was taken at the meeting of the District Coordination Committee, Kaski, held here on Friday.
Head of District Coordination Committee, Kaski, Liladhar Paudel said that the meeting decided to write to the Pokhara Metropolitan City to immediately stop the illegal mining and dredging work in the wetlands and request the District Administration Office for necessary assistance.

The decision was taken in response to reports received about illegal exploitation of Phewa watershed and wetlands. Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhana Raj Acharya, who also attended the meeting as an invitee, said that the metropolis is fully committed to stop the exploitation of Phewa lake and protect the area.
Chief District Officer of Kaski, Basudev Ghimire, pledged full support of the local administration to the matter.
