During interrogation by police, Niru admitted that she killed her father and stepmother with the help of her lover Padam Tarami. Niru, who was married to a man in Kanchanpur, was in an extramarital relationship with Padam.
At a press meet organized by police on Friday, DSP Sudarshan Thapa said that Niru decided to kill her father and stepmother after the father learnt about her illicit relationship with Padam. According to DSP Thapa, Shakta Bahadur had found Nira in a compromising situation with Padam on March 13.
"Niru believed that every one would learn about her extramarital affair if her father told her stepmother about the illicit relationship," DSP Thapa said. "She also used her lover to kill her father and step mother." Padam has also been arrested by police. He is eight years younger than Niru.

Niru told police that she was already un happy with her stepmother because she had dissuaded Shakta Bahadur from transferring a plot of land to her name. "My mother is sick and has been admitted to hospital. My father was just listening to my step mother," police quoted Niru as saying. "This also added to my anger against my father and stepmother."
According to inspector Indra Subedi, who is investigating into the murder, Niru called Padam on the night of March 30. They spent the night in a nearby woods. In the wee hours of March 14, they killed Shakta Bahadur and his wife with a sickle and a knife.
