KATHMANDU, Sept 9: CPN-UML party has urged the Madhes-based political parties to sit for talks and seek solution to their grievances within the Constituent Assembly instead of relying on aggressive protests.

UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli claimed there were several options left for addressing the concerns of the agitating Madhesi and Tharu communities from within the CA.He said so even as the deadline to register amendment proposal for changes in the contents of draft constitution bill expired on Saturday and the CA has already begun clause-wise deliberations on the proposed amendments.

Oli argued that solutions could be found in the 54 amendment proposals registered by various political parties and lawmakers at the CA secretariat.

"We can find solutions in the 54 amendment proposals that are already registered at the CA and we can find other solutions as well," Oli said at a press conference held at his party head office on Wednesday. "But that will be possible only if they are ready to sit for talks and end violent activities."

Oli, who has strongly rejected the agitating parties' call to halt the constitution-making process, said that the major parties were ready for talks and seek solutions through dialogue but not to delay the constitution.

"We can reach a political understanding. Make changes to the constitution before or after its promulgation, but we can't delay the constitution making process under any pretexts," said Oli. "We will move ahead even if some parties choose to boycott the CA."

He accused the agitating political parties of inciting violence in the Tarai districts with a view to fulfill their vested interests.
