Congress activists burn PM's effigy

ITAHARI, Aug 8: The activists of Nepali Congress burnt effigy of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal on Monday demanding compensation for the family of Sanu Yadav of Dewangunj, who died in a police fire.



Nepali Congress Itahari had announced a phase-wise protest program immediately after the death of Yadav. [break]Congress activists from all across the district gathered and chanted slogans against Prime Minister Khanal and the government.



Yadav was shot during a clash between the locals and the police who had gone to arrest one Ashok Gupta for bringing 15 sacks of cotton without paying customs duty. Yadav died while undergoing treatment at B.P Koirala Health and Science Academy, Dharan.



Apart from compensation, the agitators have also demanded that Yadav be declared a Martyr. Committees formed by Home Ministry and the Nepali Congress are investigating the incident.
