Committee formed to carry out study on post-quake ecological impact

KATHMANDU, May 27: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment has constituted a committee to study the impact on ecology caused by the April 25 major earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.

The committee was formed at the directives of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala who holds the portfolio of the Ministry as well, said Ministry's Environment Division Chief Joint-Secretary Mahendraman Gurung. The committee is expected to give necessary feedback to the government for dealing with possible impact on environment in course of reconstruction of damaged structures and rehabilitation of the displaced.

The committee includes joint-secretaries from the National Planning Commission, Ministries of Home Affairs, Federal Affairs and Local Development, Agriculture Development and Forest and Soil Conservation and the Director of World Wildlife Fund. RSS
