BARA, May 24: A violent clash broke out between two factions during an extended meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Bara, leaving two municipal committee chiefs injured.

The incident occurred during a meeting held Saturday at Karanraj Party Palace in Kalaiya after a dispute erupted between lawmakers and long-time party workers.

Among the injured were Mahagadhimai Municipality Chair Bikram Yadav and Simraungadh Municipality Chair Saheb Ansari. Three people in total were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at Kalaiya Provincial Hospital.

According to RSP Bara founding chair Chandan Swarnakar, tensions escalated after founding and senior party workers were allegedly assaulted during the meeting.

Injured municipal chair Bikram Yadav accused lawmaker Arbind Sah of grabbing his hand and ordering “hooligans” to beat him.

The dissatisfied faction claimed that lawmakers had brought outsiders to suppress long-time party cadres attending the meeting.

The dispute reportedly began after veteran party workers sought clarification over allegations that tickets for upcoming local elections had already been sold in advance.

Tensions within the district unit had already been simmering after the general membership of founding district chair Chandan Swarnakar was revoked, straining relations between senior local leaders and lawmakers.

Although the party had sent central representative Kamani Chaudhary to mediate and conduct the extended meeting, the situation spiraled out of control. Angry cadres allegedly attempted to assault both party representatives and all four district lawmakers present at the venue.

As tensions mounted, security personnel escorted Bara Constituency No. 1 lawmaker Ganesh Dhimal, Constituency No. 2 lawmaker Chandan Singh, Constituency No. 3 lawmaker Arbind Sah, Constituency No. 4 lawmaker Rahbar Ansari, and central representative Kamani Chaudhary out of the venue under security protection.

The founding faction accused newly joined members of trying to capture the district committee while sidelining cadres who had spent years building the party organization.

Meanwhile, lawmakers who left the venue later held a press conference at Barewa Darbar Hotel in Kalaiya, denying reports of violence. Lawmakers Ganesh Dhimal, Chandan Singh and Arbind Sah claimed no untoward incident had taken place during the meeting and dismissed media reports as rumors.

They also insisted that no one had been assaulted and that the meeting had remained peaceful. Politics in Nepal occasionally resembles a theater production where everyone denies the fight while the chairs are still lying upside down on the floor.
