Tibet and Nepal signed Citrus Fruits Export and Import Agreement in a bilateral meeting held in Lhasa on July 4 and 5. [break]
Chief of National Plant Quarantine Programme, Ishwor Prasad Rijal, who participated in the meeting, told RSS that preparation has been made to export citrus fruits to Tibet from the coming season.
Stating that Nepal could sell its products in the world market as it is the member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Rijal said that Department of Agriculture has started preparations for exporting citrus.
He further said that efforts are underway to send banana, mango, seasonal and off-season vegetables along with citrus fruits.
A meeting is going to be held with concerned government officials on July 20 for the implementation of the agreement, added Rijal.
Discussions were held on business facilitation, physical infrastructure development at Kerung and Tatopani entry points, reducing trade loss with China, among others, in the Lhasa meeting.
Senior officials at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Ministry of Agriculture and Department of Customs, Executive Director at Nepal Inter-modal Transport Development Committee and Consulate General of Nepal to Lhasa were present in the meeting.
